| Background |
|
In the recent 1-2 years, we have seen the emergence of user-interactive QA
systems, including Google Answers, Sina iAsk, Baidu Zhidao, Yahoo Answers,
Microsoft QnA, due to that search engines and automatic QA systems cannot
satisfy users specific information demands. However, without true incentives,
the quality and timeliness of the answers to those difficult/urgent questions
cannot be guaranteed. In addition, the accumulated knowledge is still in an
unstructured manner and makes its reuse difficult. BuyAns uses a
rewarding scheme for answering questions among all users as a business model
for exchanging and commercializing knowledge from ordinary people and an
incentive and collaborative approach to knowledge acquisition with high
efficiency and quality. The pattern-based UI and knowledge representation for
questioning and answering used in BuyAns can structure the
accumulated knowledge for accurate reuse (e.g., accurate automatic answering). BuyAns
also has many other advanced facilitating features and technologies, including
user modeling, reputation management, and answer clustering and fusion to
provide users with better experience.

| Applications |
|
It is especially useful for knowledge acquisition for various
domains. We anticipate such a platforms hot applications in the Web 2.0 era,
when more and more users (both individuals and enterprises) would like to pay
for information they urgently need and earn from knowledge they possess. It
encourages, trusts, and relies on all users participation to enrich its
content (answers/knowledge) on the Web. The rich content can then benefit all
the users in return for good reuse. In addition, due to the expected
effectiveness of the collaborative approach to knowledge acquisition, we expect
this platform can be used in various domains, including internal employee
training and technical support for end-users.
